My husband Josh and I have alway had creative space in our homes. Jai Studios LLC, combines our love of yoga, music, art and wellness into one studio center. Josh and I finally have all the studio space of our dreams, plenty of space not just for yoga, but also for our music and artistic pursuits. The home we found is in picturesque Brownsville, VT. The town is in the Connecticut River valley, at the base of Mt. Ascutney (The Abenaki name for the mountain is Kaskadenak (pronounced: Cas-Cad-Nac), which means "mountain of the rocky summit" or "wide mountain"). The house was a cheese factory in the late 1800’s, and has since been a horse barn, an auto garage (in the 1950’s), and woodworking studio, a mountain bike shop, and now a yoga and creative studio. This home means so much to us and we wanted to celebrate our ‘victory’ in finally having the space of our dreams! Jai (pronounced “Jay” in Hindi or “Jaya” in Sanskrit) means ‘victory’ in Sanskrit and is an expression of great joy and celebration, so it seemed a fitting name.
We offer these classes, trainings, and art and music events for our local community. Brownsville, VT is a picturesque Vermont town and we feel blessed to have landed here. We are excited at the changes and new opportunities.
We offer homage to the Abenaki tribes whose ancestors long ago lived on these lands and along these waterways we now call home. We offer homage to the land of India and to the many wise teachers who have offered the western world an incredibly rich tradition and practice of Yoga. May these two cultures so connected and rooted to the natural rhythms and the elements, help bring peace to humanity. I am eternally grateful to these wisdom traditions and with great humility I bow to them.
We hope you will walk with us in this practice.
What is Myriad Yoga and “Yoga Flow”?
Myriad Flow is a practice of bringing forth our most Optimal Self through asana- postures, pulsing movement, breath, mindful attention, and creative pursuits. Myriad Yoga Flow is designed as a total wellness system that recognizes the vital need to honor the individual and unique needs of each practitioner as they change over time, while simultaneously recognizing that we are all connected at the source of Spirit.
Each practice session begins with centering and attention to the breath, and coordinating each fluid movement with the breath. We open into this fluid movement by releasing tension in the spine through wave pulsations, by strengthening and radiating from our connection to the navel center and core body, and by reaching into periphery of the body through length and expansion of our limbs. After such mindful strengthening and expansive movement, we take time to rest deeply for a complete integration experience of ease and peace. Over time, we artfully grow our body/mind awareness though these fluid somatic movements, conscious breathing, and reflective meditation practices.
It is my hope as a fellow practitioner and guide that the many benefits of this practice will radiate throughout all aspects of your life to create a total wellness lifestyle.
More musings on the meaning of the word ‘Myriad’…
The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named is not the eternal name
The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth
The named is the mother of Myriad things
~ Translation by Derek Lin
From Angie: “I have long been a seeker of truth and meaning. I studied Fine Arts while in college, but I found ways to integrate the deeper seeking into my studies, designing my own independent studies in Art History~ “Zen and Art” “Hinduism and Art”, “Ancient Meso-American Art History”. My studies intensified after college as the practice of Yoga and Meditation wove its way deeper and deeper into my life, the lines between Art and Truth Seeking only blurred. All of Life has become an artistic expression of this great seeking. The many forms of the divine are everywhere. I am reminded of the many interpretations of the Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tzu- which repeatedly bring up the “Myriad Things”. From the one, comes the many…
We are told that the world began with a bang… a big one.
And that it arose from a “Singularity”. One point. And from that One came the entire universe. There are certainly a myriad of “things” in the entirety of the universe. All around us, and even within us, exists the original source, that singularity. It is not separate. We are not separate from that moment and we can not seek the answers outside.
We are the very origin of the universe. All our answers are within.
Myriad Yoga points to this truth. Though there are many different forms, many bodies practicing yoga, many asanas to take shape, many paths and practices to engage in, they are all simply the expression of Oneness. I seek Unity.
Myriad Yoga suggests that beneath the many forms.
We are One body, living and breathing across galaxies of being.
Myriad Yoga takes form in Yoga Classes, Music, and Art take expression in the walls within. Myriad Yoga takes form in a Yoga Teacher Training Program, creating Myriad Teachers to share and spread the reach of this healing practice of yoga with myriad souls waiting to expand.
These are my offerings to you.”
